Practice and rehearsal spaces
Practice makes perfect. And in the NTU Music Centre on City Campus we have spaces to suit everyone – from individual musicians and small bands to larger groups.
Practice rooms
We have five practice rooms which are available for students and staff to book online.
From Monday 1 September 2025, if you aren't a member of one of our ensembles, you'll need to purchase an annual membership (£15) to book and use our practice rooms. If you're sharing a practice room with friends, everyone will require their own membership. Purchase will be available via the before the start of September.
Booking in advance is recommended, but not always necessary. Sessions are limited to 30 minutes to maximise the number of people who can use the facilities. However if there's no one booked in afterwards, you're free to play on.

Rehearsal spaces
We have two larger rehearsal spaces available to book, with priority given to scheduled music activity and individual tuition. From Monday 1 September we're introducing a small annual charge for students and colleagues using these facilities.
Group bookings
For group bookings, each person will need to purchase an annual membership (£15) which will be available to buy from the shortly. Contact the music team to book either space: music@ntu.ac.uk or 0115 848 4570.
NTSU Society bookings
Societies can book the dance studio for regular or one-off sessions. From Monday 1 September all groups or societies will need to purchase an annual society membership to access these facilities.
- 1-30 members – £50
- 31-60 members – £75
- 60+ members – £100

Our 150-capacity Ensemble Room is ideal for ensemble choral or instrumental rehearsals, and has the following:
- grand piano
- PA system
- music stands
- chairs
Our 30-capacity Dance Studio is more suited for smaller rehearsals and dance. It has the following:
- upright piano
- floor to ceiling mirrored wall
- sprung floor
- freestanding adjustable ballet barres
- an integrated stereo system
- music stands
- chairs
Accessibility
All areas of the Music Centre are accessible to wheelchair users. Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor, and there is lift access to the first and lower ground floor. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding accessibility.
External hire
Our practice and rehearsal spaces are also available for external hire at weekends and during University holiday periods. Email music@ntu.ac.uk or call 0115 848 4570 to find out more about availability and rates.
