Role

Emmanuel Bechem is a Lecturer in Law at Nottingham Law School. He is co/module leader for Legal and Professional Environment (PGDL module), Public International Law, and International Trade Law (LLB modules). He also teaches on the International, European, and Comparative Law module for undergraduates, and has previously taught Torts, Contract Law, and International Carriage of Goods. Emmanuel is equally a personal tutor and member of different research hubs at NTU.

Career overview

Emmanuel's passion lies in conducting legal research, particularly in exploring the intricate connections between economic, social, and environmental rights. He obtained his PhD in Law from The University of Manchester, where he conducted extensive research on the realisation of sustainable infrastructure development by means of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). Furthermore, he holds an LLM in International Economic Law from The University of Warwick, with his dissertation focused on sovereign debt crises and debt restructuring.

His professional background encompasses experience in both the public and private sectors. He has contributed as a researcher to several notable projects, such as the £320 million Manchester Town Hall rehabilitation project (ASPECT and F+G) and the UK Trade Skills Audit Survey Project, sponsored by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Â鶹ÊÓƵover, Emmanuel has lent his expertise as a research assistant to a successful grant application for a project investigating comparative labour law remedies in private law. This inter-disciplinary research endeavour was awarded a €2 million consolidator grant by the European Research Council, spanning five years.

Prior to embarking on his doctoral studies, Emmanuel briefly worked as a Human Rights/Programme Officer for the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), Cameroon. During his tenure, he contributed to the NGO's humanitarian assistance plan and human rights advocacy efforts.

Emmanuel has actively participated in numerous academic forums, including a round table discussion held at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
